Youth killed in capital Dhaka ‘gunfight’ with DB – 3 murdered

Dhaka, June 11 – A youth was killed in a reported gunfight with detectives in Bhatara area in the capital early Monday. The deceased was identified as Shariful Islam, 28.Shahin Aman Ullah, sub-inspector of Bhatara Police Station, said on information, a team of police rescued bullet-hit Shariful from 300 feet road in Bashundhara gate area.
Doctors declared him dead when he was taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
However, the details about the gunfight could not be known yet.
Earlier on Sunday 3 people, including a ‘bKash’ agent employee and a housewife, were murdered in separate incidents in the capital’s Demra, Sabujbagh and Kamrangirchar areas.
The victims are ‘bKash’ agent employee Rashedul Islam, 28, Rahat Miah, 24, and Piyara Begum 30.
Muggers shot Rashedul to death before snatching a bag containing money from him at Demra on Sunday noon.
Iftekhar Hossain, assistant commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Demra zone), said two hoodlums in a motorbike opened fire on Rashedul around 12 noon and took away a bag full of money from him, leaving him dead on the spot.
However, the amount of the money could not be known yet.
In Sabujbagh, Rahat chased an alleged thief seeing him fleeing towards Mothetek Natun Bazar Balurmath with the booty on Saturday night, said sub-inspector Sharifuzzaman of Sabujbagh Police Station.
At one stage, the thief stabbed him, leaving him seriously injured.
Rahat was first taken to Mugda General Hospital and then shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 4am on Sunday.
Rahat, son of Babul Miah, was residing along with his parents at 166/10 Mothertek Natunpara.
Victim’s father Babul Miah alleged that Rahat had a previous enmity with Riaz, ex-husband of his daughter Sonia, for the last two years.
Riaz might have killed Rahat by hiring goons, he said.
Meanwhile, Piyara Begum had an altercation with her husband Sohrab Hossain, a van-puller, around 7am on Sunday at their rented house near Rony Market of Kamrangirchar.
At one stage, he stabbed his wife in the neck and fled the scene, said officer-in-charge of Kamrangirchar Police Station Shahin Fakir.
She was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared her dead around 8am. – UNB
