A passenger has allegedly been beaten to death simply because he refused to pay Tk 2 more for the fare at Kaliakoir in Gazipur on Saturday.
The allegation was brought against Ful Mia, 30, driver of a locally assembled vehicle called Laguna and his assistant Sohagh, 17, said Syed Azharul Islam, Sub-Inpector at Mouchak Police Outpost.
He said Md Shafi Uddin Shafi, 42, son of late Karim Uddin hailing from Lohakoir in the city, was going to Purbani Garments, where he worked as a tailor, fom Konabarhi Bus stand in a Laguna around 9:30am.After getting down at Mouchak near his workplace, Shafi was charged Tk 2 more as fare, which he refused to pay. Furious by the refusal Ful Mia and his assistant Sohagh severely assaulted him.
Locals rushed Shafi to Gazipur General Hospital in a critical condition, but doctors pronounced him dead immediately after being taken there.
Locals also captured the driver and the helper and handed them over to police.
Joydebpur Police Station’s Sub-Inspector Kamrul Islam said they were investigating the incident. – bdnews24.com
