Arrested Barisal Jamaat leaders sent to jail

Ten Jamaat leaders and activists including Barisal city Jamaat
secretary, journalist of daily Sangram and three government employees
sent to jail on Saturday.
Police on a drive Friday night arrested them from Farid Manzil, a
house at Sagordi area.
The arrestees were identified as Jahiruddin Md. Babar, city Jamaat
secretary, Prof. Shah Alam, daily Sangram Barisal Bureau chief and in
charge of media wing, Abul Bashar, office superintendent of atomic
treament center at Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital
campus, Syed Abdul Wahab, sub-assistant officer, agriculture
department Jhalakathi, Abdus Sattar, work assistant Water Development
Board Barisal office, Bazlur Rahman, Ahmed Ali Ashraful Alam,
Waliullah, Abdul Mannan, leaders and prominent activists of Barisal
JI.
Shakhawat Hossain, Barisal Kotwali police station in charge said the
JI leaders and activists were arrested from Farid Manjil, resident of
a JI activist, while engaged in secret meeting for planning to do
sabotage on ahead of announced shutdown of the opposition alliance on
Sunday.
The arrestees were produced before the court indicting in cases for
ransacking transports, public properties, blasting explosives on
Saturday and magistrate rejecting their bail prayer ordered send them
to jail, said Sub Inspector Kabir, investigation officer of the cases.
Mentionably police arrested Barisal city Amir, central executive
committee member of Jamaat E Islami, member secretary of 18-party
alliance Barisal and a leading lawyer of Barisal district bar Advocate
Moazzem Hossain Helal on April 25, 2013 and indicted him in a dozen of
cases.
Advocate Mojibor Rahman Sarwar, convener of 18-party alliance,
lawmaker, and city BNP president, condemning the arrest of Jamaat
leaders and demanding their immediate release alleged that police
acting as ruling party cadres by arresting alliance leaders and
activists on ahead of Barisal City Corporation election.
