BCC election : BNP fields one mayor nominee, AL camp faces rebels

BNP-led 18 party alliance succeeded to set single Mayor candidate and
AL-led 14 party alliance have to face rebel-candidate after ending
withdrawal date line of May 26.
Adv Kamrul Ahsan Shahin,  Barisal City BNP Secretary and former public
prosecutor and Ebaidul Huq Chan, former district BNP secretary and
former president , withdraw their nomination papers on Sunday
afternoon supporting Ahsan Habib Kamal, district BNP president and
18-party alliance supported candidate for Mayor post.
Now, Ahsan Habib Kamal, district (south) BNP president and former
Mayor will contest from BNP led 18 party alliances, Shawkat Hossain
Hiron, city AL president and outgoing BCC Mayor  and  ruling Awami
League led 14 party alliances backed candidate  and Mahmudur Rahman
Khan Mamun alias Khan Mamun, joint secretary of district Jubo League,
will contest for Mayoral post.
On Sunday morning Kamrul Ahsan Shahin personally coming before
returning officer presented his withdrawal letter and the RO accepted
that.
But the withdrawal letter of Ebaidul Huq Chan, who was residing at
Dhaka to talk with central BNP leaders, was sent through his son Abdul
Huq Chisti in morning.
Representative of opponent candidates demanded personal presence of
Chan to withdraw his nomination paper.
After that Chan flown to Barisal by helicopter at 2:45 pm and
personally withdraw his nomination paper application after going to
the RO  office at about 3:15 pm.
Mujibor Rahman, returning officer of third BCC Election 2013, said
after withdrawal of 2 mayor, 24 general and 2 reserved female
councilor candidates, now number of candidates in upcoming BCC
election scheduled to be held on June 15 stands as 3 Mayor, 115
general and 45 reserved female seats.
