Dhaka-Around 100 female members have been recruited for Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) for the first time and they will start training from January next year.BGB director general (DG), Major General Aziz Ahmed revealed it in a press conference at its Pilkhana headquarters on Sunday.
The press conference was organised to highlight his three year’s success as the DG of the paramilitary force.
Though earlier we decided to recruit 50 female members but we increased it up to 100 getting special permission from the Home Ministry as we got tremendous response from the female candidates during recruitment process, the DG BGB said.
“We will increase the number of female members from next recruitment’s time,” he added.
Maj General Aziz Ahmed also said that more than 8,500 BGB members were recruited during his tenure in last three years to consolidate its strength and capacity.
He also said that process has been going on to procure three helicopters for BGB to strengthen its capacity further.
Highlighting his achievements for the development of the paramilitary force in last three years, the DG BGB said so far 276 various types of establishments , including quarters of officers and employees, roads communications, offices of sector commander, region commander and battalion headquarters and bangloos of senior officers, have already build, while 167 others are now under construction.
Besides, four each region and sector headquarters and 10 battalion headquarters were raised in his tenure, while two more BGB battalions will be raised soon, he added.
About discipline of the force, he claimed that he had showed zero-tolerance against any involvement of any of his personnel with drug and illicit relations.
More than 100 members have been terminated in last three years for their involvement with drugs and maintaining extra-marital relationship, he added.
About killing of Bangladeshi nationals in bordering area, the BGB chief admitted that it could not be possible to bring the border killing to zero level but he said his struggle will be continued in this regard.
Around 40 Bangladeshi nationals were killed allegedly by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) or Indian nationals in last year and 35 were killed till this time..
The DG BGB said the issue of the border killing will be the top agenda again during the next director-general-level border talks, which is scheduled to be held in December 22 this month in Dhaka.
The BGB chief hinted that the prime minister Sheikh Hasina is likely to inaugurate BGB-owned Shimanta Bank on December 20, the raising day of the mutiny-hit border force.
She is also scheduled to inaugurate the border guard hospitals in Khagrachhari, Thakurgaon and Chuadanga.
