Dhaka Education Board punishes 233 expelled HSC examinees

Dhaka Sept 27 – The discipline committee of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary
Education, Dhaka, has taken stern steps against 233 expelled examinees for adopting unfair means in the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations in 2018.The committee has cancelled whole examinations of 227 examinees for unfair means but allowed them to sit for the HSC examinations in 2019 subject to the registration period.
The body also cancelled the examination of an examinee holding the roll number 454616 and disallowed the examinee from taking part in the HSC examination in 2019.
On the other hand, four examinees (roll numbers 130740, 343140, 394620 and 428747) are not allowed to take part in the HSC examinations for the next two years while another examinee (roll number 313165) is not allowed to take part in the HSC examinations in for three years.
Sources the stern steps have been taken considering the gravity of adopting unfair means in the examinations.
“We have taken such steps considering the gravity of the offence. Such steps are taken every year,” Prof M Ziaul Haque, chairman of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, Dhaka told journalists on Thursday.
He said, “We have minutely scrutinised the allegation against the examinees, their answer scripts, reply of the invigilators, report of the incumbent officers, reply of the expelled examinees before reaching to such conclusion.”
“We have taken the decision unanimously when the allegations are proved,” he added.
He said, “Anybody who will adopt unfair means in the examination halls will face the music. None will be spared and nobody is allowed to break the examination rules and regulations.”
Meanwhile, Board of Intermediate and Higher Secondary Education, Dhaka recently issued letters to the headmasters/principals of all educational institutions reminding them not to allow any examinee to sit for Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and HSC examinations if the
examinee fails to pass the test exam.
The board has issued such letter following the allegation of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) that said there are existing rules that the examinee must pass all subjects for taking part in SSC or HSC examinations but there is an allegation that the examinees who have failed in one or two subjects have been allowed to the final examinations. It is desirable to stop, the ACC said.
ACC also said that the answer scripts of the examinees in the test exams should be preserved for six months till the public examinations.
Following ACC letter, Board has instructed the heads of the educational institutions not to allow any examinee to sit for public examination if fails in one or two subjects and their answer papers
should be preserved for six months.
Ziaul Haque said, “Test examination is a must for taking part in public examinations. We have instructed the heads of the educational institutions under Dhaka Board.”
Asked if any examinee fails to take part in test exam due to illness, he said, “Alternative arrangement has to be taken. The examinee will sit for the exam after recovery from illness. But text exam is a must.” – Staff Reporter
