Election-time government in mid-October: Quader

Dhaka, Sept 11 – The ruling Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader Monday
said that the election-time government will be formed in the middle of October, in a bid to oversee the upcoming general elections scheduled to be held in the year-end.“The poll-time government will be formed by mid-October. Its size will be small and there will be no technocrat in it,” he said this while speaking to the journalists at his secretariat office in the city.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister claimed that he had discussed over the issue with the AL president and the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recently.
He also said the Jatiya Party (JP-Ershad) has requested to add one or two ministers from JP, to the poll-time government and it is depending upon the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina how many leaders she will include in the poll-time cabinet from Jatiya Party.
About the nomination process of the ruling party, Quader said that the party’s nomination for the national election will be finalised next month. He said the Prime Minister has given ‘hint’ to 60 to 70 leaders for taking preparation as they might get the nomination.
In another query of reporters how many seats will be given to the alliance parties in the next elections, Obaidul Quader said, it could be 60 to 70.
He also said that Jatiya Party has declared that if the BNP does not come to the polls, the Jatiya Party will compete separately outside the alliance. And if BNP joins the next polls, JP will contest the polls form an alliance.
BNP is trying to create an issue over its Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s illness. She needs better treatment and it is possible at BSMMU as the hospital is specialized, said the AL leader.
“BNP couldn’t do anything in last the ten years and I believe the party can not do anything also in next two months,” he added.
About BNP’s call for national unity, the AL general secretary said none will respond to the BNP’s call for national unity under its leadership, as the country’s people and other political parties are with the Awami League.
Quader also alleged that a section of media is provoking different quarters to take to the field ahead of the next polls in a bid to weaken the Sheikh Hasina administration. – Staff Reporter
