Power shutdown forces adjournment of BD Parliament

Dhaka, Sept 11 – Power load-shedding in Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban has forced
adjournment of the current session of 10th parliament on Monday. After concluding the question-answer hour, Deputy Speaker Dr Fazle Rabbi Miah adjourned the session till 55:00 Wednesday.
The Sangsad Bhaban experienced load shedding after 3:45pm blacking out most of its blocks.
The day’s sitting was supposed to start at 5:00pm but it began at 5:10pm with operating generator due to load shedding. Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury chaired the session.
After the break for magreb prayer, the session resumed with the deputy speaker and he adjourned the session till today.
Later, he told reporters that Sangsad Bhaban experienced the load shedding due to problems at Meghnaghat Power Station.
“It is a disaster. The session has been adjourned due to this,” he added.
After the adjournment of the session, the load shedding however ended as the electricity was available from at about 7:15 pm.
Meanwhile, when contacted Sayed Ahmed, member (generation) of Power Development Board (PDB) said there was a scarcity of power in different parts of the city and its adjacent areas at around 5:00pm as the 450-megawat IPP power plant suddenly shut down due to technical
reasons.
The reasons behind the incident could not be identified since the filing of the report at 8:00pm. The authority started investigating into the matter. – Staff Reporter
