‘Govt using cops, court to destroy BNP’

BNP Standing Committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia alleged the government is using police and court to destroy opposition BNP. He came up with the allegation while addressing a human chain organized by Motijheel Thana Sramik Dal in front of the national Press Club on Monday morning.
The human chain was formed demanding the release of top BNP leaders including Mirza Abbas.
Barrister Rafiqul Islam said, “Prime Minister’s closed associates are directly involved with Padma Bridge graft and that’s why none of the newspaper published their names, but they will not be spared when BNP will assume power.”
Protesting against the arrest of their leaders, he said, “The government is arresting and harassing BNP leaders and activists to foil their movement. The government is pushing the country towards a massive crisis and dangerous situation is prevailing in the country.”
“The country’s law and order situation is in serious catastrophe, no one is safe now,” he added.
He also threatened the government to paralyze the country through enforcing hartal demanding release of their party leaders.
Talking about government’s interference in media, he said, “The government closed Amar Desh and has arrested its editor to hide their misdeeds.”
Amongst the others, general secretary Jakir Hassan and other central leaders spoke in the programme. UNB
