Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive seized a haul of smuggled Indian cloths worth Tk12.62 lakh in Chalandia area in sadar upazila of the district on Friday.
Being tipped-off, a patrol team of BGB conducted a drive in the area in the morning and seized 192 pieces of saree and 2,950 metre fabrics while the smugglers were bringing the items into the country from India, said Major Anwarul Majhar, operation officer of Satkhira 38 BGB Battalion.
However, the smugglers fled the scene sensing the presence of the BGB personnel.
The estimated value of the seized goods would go up to Tk12.62 lakh. -UNB, Satkhira
