Lohagara thana police recovered a hanging body of a housewife on
Monday morning from Poddarpara area of Lohagara . Though the members
of the deceased’s in-laws family termed it as suicide, locals and
relatives of the deceased think that it is a case of deliberate
killing. A spontaneous procession was brought out in Lohagara town on
Monday noon demanding exemplary punishment of the ‘murderers’. Posters
containing the same demand have been stuck in the area.The deceased
was identified as Tapati Kundu, 42, wife of Joydeb Kundu of Poddarpara
area of Lohagara town.
It is learnt that Tapati, daughter of Jibon Kundu of Sharshuna village
under Shalikha upazila of Magura district was married to Joydeb 20
years ago. The couple was blessed with a son a couple of years after
the marriage. Locals gradually came to know about the inharmonious
relations between the couple. It is alleged that the housewife had
been tortured physically and mentally. About ten times locals,
relatives of the both sides of the couple and municipality
representatives tried to settle the matter through arbitration but
with no result. At one stage Jibon Kundu took her daughter Tapati to
his house about ten years ago. Their only son of the couple died
drowning in the river and later father of Tapati died. After that,
being shelterless Tapoti came to her inlaws house a couple of months
ago. The members of her inlaws family did not receive her cordially.
Instead of that the torture took the shape of a new dimension. Later
on May 05 another arbitration led by municipality mayor Nazrul Islam
Thakur settled her undisturbed family life with the consent of both
the parties. After about one month the housewife has to face the
tragic end of life.
Rabindranath Dey Mondal, 56, brother in law of the victim said, it is
a cold blooded murder. Joydeb’s elder brother and her wife hatched a
conspiracy to disinherit Joydeb killing his wife to grasp entire asset
of the family. Joydeb, without understanding all helped them to
fulfill their evil desire.
Joydeb said, his wife Tapati was not mentally sound. Very often she
threatened us of a dire consequence after she had killed herself. At
last she did it. SI Siddique of Lohagara thana said, the deceased bore
black mark on her body. A UD case has been filed with the thana.
Whether it is case of murder of suicide could be known after getting
the post mortem report.
