MP Rony pleads for bail

Awami League MP Golam Maula Rony pleaded for bail at Dhaka Judges Court on Sunday after the Chief Metropolitan Magistrates Court denied that to him.His lawyer Kabir Hossain told bdnews24.com the bail petition was submitted on behalf of the MP on Sunday.
Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Johurul Haque has scheduled hearing on the petition on Aug 13.
Awami League MP Golam Maula Rony was arrested after a Dhaka Court scrapped his bail in a case involving assault on two TV journalists.
Imtiaz Momin Sony and cameraman Mohsin Mukul of private television station Independent TV came under attack at Rony’s Meherba Plaza office on Topkhana Road Jul 20 where they had gone to interview the MP for their investigative programme ‘Talash’.

Later, the case was filed against the Patuakhali-3 MP with the Shahbagh police.
Although Rony regretted the incident, he claimed that Independent TV co-owner Salman F Rahman put the Talash team after him following his remarks on the share market scam.
The MP also lodged a complaint on his official letterhead with the Shahbagh police on Saturday night, accusing Rahman of extortion, blackmailing, attempt-to-murder, and abduction.
Rony had surrendered before the court and secured bail on July 21 in the assault case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan after hearing a plea by the plaintiff of the case scrapped Rony’s bail and issued a warrant of arrest against him.
The case’s plaintiff Independent TV Assistant Manager Yunus Ali filed a general diary with the police alleging that he received phone threats from Rony.
Rony was elected MP from Patuakhali-3 (Doshmina and Golachipa) in 2008.
The MP is currently locked up in Surma Bhaban of Gazipur’s Kashimpur prison.
Rony in a statement issued on Thursday claimed he was ‘ victim’ in the whole episode.
But he admitted he was “fully responsible for the unwarranted behavior against our journalist friends.” – bdnews24.com
