A court here yesterday sentenced a man to suffer life term in jail for killing his cousin at village Gamruli-Horipur under Kendua upazila of Netrakona district in 2000.The court also fined him Taka 50,000, in default to suffer, another five years of rigorous imprisonment.Additional district and session judge Netrakona Mohammad Abdul Hamid announced the verdict at his crowded court room here on Monday last.According to the court sources, the convicted person was identified as Abdus Sattar of the village Gamruli-Horipur of the Kendua upazila.The prosecution story, in brief, is that the convict Abdus Sattar called his cousin Abdur Razzak out from his house at the village Gamruli-Horiur on the night Of December 29, 2000. On the same night, Sattar killed Razzak and kept his body behind the house of one Lahajuddin of the village aiming to implicate the Lahajuddin in the murder case.On receiving information, a police team from Kendua police station visited the place of occurrence on the next day and recovered the body and sent it to Netrakona sader hospital morgue for postmortem.The victim’s mother filed a murder case with the Kendua police station against three persons including the convicted person on that day.After completing investigation, police submitted charge-sheet before the court against the convicted person.The learned additional district and session judge Abdul Hamid after examining the witnesses and evidences found the Sattar guilty and handed down the punishment, the court sources added. –Our Correspondent, Netrakona
