Rokeya University shut following clash

The Begum Rokeya University was declared closed for an indefinite period followed by a clash between police and the university teachers and students, which left 35 people, including three teachers, injured on Saturday morning. The decision to shut down the university came from its Academic Council meeting around 2pm.
Witnesses said the trouble started on the campus around 11am when the teachers and students laid a siege to the Vice Chancellor’s residence protesting the dismissal of four teachers and two officials of the university.
The six people were dismissed on Thursday for reportedly instigating students to destabilise the campus situation.
The protesters threw brick chips at the police prompting the law-enforcers to swing into action charging baton and firing teargas shells and rubber bullets, leaving the teachers and students injured.
Later, police arrested a student with a crude bomb. UNB
