Rupa’s body exhumed for proper burial

The body of Jakia Sultana Rupa, who was killed after being gang raped in a running bus, was exhumed and handed over to her family for burial in proper manner on Thursday.

The body was exhumed at about 4 pm in presence of assistant commissioner (land) Abdur Rahim and then handed over to victim’s brother Hafizur Rahman.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner of the district Khan Mohammad Nurul Amin gave the order for exhuming the body after victim’s brother filed a plea in this regard.

Family members will burry the body Rupa, 27, at their family graveyard at Asanbari village in Tarash upazila in Sirajganj district in a befitting manner, Hafizur said.

After recovery of the body of Rupa from Panchmail area of Mahupur upazila here on Friday night it was buried at Tangail central graveyard as unidentified body on Saturday after a post-mortem.

The incident occurred when she was returning to Sherpur after attending the teacher registration examination in Mymensingh on Friday.

On Monday night, police arrested five people, including the bus helper, driver and its supervisor from Mymensingh over the matter.

Rupa completed her Masters from Bogra Azizul Haque College and was studying law at Dhaka Ideal Law College. She was working at Unilever Bangladesh Limited at its Sherpur branch.
