Special drive against anti militant action: HM

Amid the growing concern over the recent militant activities, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Sunday said a special drive will be launched across the country after the municipality polls based on information being provided by intelligence agencies.“After receiving information from the intelligence agencies, the law enforcers will a launch special drive across the country after the upcoming municipality polls, if needed,” he said at the ministry while talking to reporters about the recent militant activities, including Bagmara Ahmadiyya mosque bomb blast.

Noting that the country’s intelligence agencies are alert about militant activities, the minister said the law enforcers had managed to arrest militants whenever they planned to carry out any subversive acts. “Militants are trying to raise their heads in the country like in Australia, France and the US, but they failed to do so as everything is under government’s control,” he said.

Asaduzzaman also blamed the recent incidents on local and internal conspiracies against Bangladesh.

Reiterating that there is no existence of any extremist groups like Islamic State (IS) in Bangladesh, he claimed the activists of BNP-Jamaat-Shibir are behind all the militant acts posing as JMB, Ansarullah Bangla Team and Harkatul Jihad operatives.

The minister also urged religious scholars, including imams, Alem-Ulema and church fathers, to send out a message through their sermons that no religion supports the murder of human being.

He also said there is nothing to be worried about the upcoming municipality polls as law enforcement agencies will remain deployed to maintain the law and order during the election.
