Suspected drug trader killed in Chuadanga ‘gunfight’

Chuadanga, Apr 13 – A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Ukto village in Sadar Upazila early Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Ruhul Amin, 48, son of late Mofiz Uddin, a resident of Sadar Municipal area and also accused in 16 drug-related cases.
Being tipped off that a consignment of the drug would be smuggled through the village, a patrol team of police took a position at a bamboo orchard, said Abu Jihad Fakhrul Alam Khan, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
When a gang of drug traders carrying sacks full of drugs was crossing the area around 2 am and the police team challenged them.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the gang members opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, triggering the gunfight.
After 15 minutes of the gunfight, when the drug traders fled the scene, police recovered bullet hit Ruhul Amin and took him to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Three policemen including a sub-inspector were also injured, said the OC adding that the team also recovered a one-shooter gun, two round bullets, two sharp weapons and a sack of Phensidyl from the from. – UNB
