Tarique has no asset abroad, says counsel

BNP lawmaker Barrister Mahbubuddin Khokan on Sunday said in Parliament that BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman has no wealth abroad and the government is putting pressure on BNP chief Khaleda Zia by tourturing her son.“I’m Tarique Rahman’s lawyer. I can challenge that Tarique Rahman has no wealth abroad. All the cases filed against him were part of political revenge,” he told the House while taking part in the discussion on supplementary budget.
No pressure will work as Khaleda Zia is an ‘uncompromising’ leader, the BNP lawmaker said, adding that the next election must be held under non-party, neutral government.
“You’ve to keep in mind that people want the next election under a neutral, non-party government. It’s a mass demand,” he said.
Mahbubuddin Khokan criticised the Prime Minister for her recent remark that the door for dialogue is closed. “The Prime Minister had earlier said the discussion can be held inside and outside parliament. Now her stance has changed.”
On Padma Bridge issue, he said: “It’s a shame for the country as the trial relating to Padma Bridge graft is being held in Canada.”
Khokon also criticised the role of Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) for withdrawing the cases against ministers. (Source: UNB)
