Two suspected drug traders killed in ‘gunfights’

Dhaka, Apr 24 –Two suspected drug traders were killed in separate ‘gunfights’ with law enforcers in Dhaka and Cox’s Bazar early Wednesday.
In Dhaka, a ‘drug trader’ was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Diabari in city’s Uttara area early Wednesday.
Acting on tipped off, a team of Rab-1 conducted a drive in the area around 12:15 am in the area where a gang of drug traders gathered, said sources at Rab Headquarters.
Sensing the presence of the elite force, the criminals opened fire to Rab, prompting them to fire back.
At one stage, Rab recovered the bullet hit the body of a ‘drug trader’. They also recovered hemp and firearms from the spot.
Two Rab members were also injured in the incident.
In Cox’s Bazar, A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with police near Marine Drive road in Teknaf Upazila early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Dil Mohammad, 36, son of Makbul Ahmed of Godarbhil village in the Upazila.
Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, said police arrested Dil Mohammad from the Upazila on Tuesday afternoon.
Later, a team of police along with Dil Mohammad conducted a drive at an abandoned fish enclosure in the area to recover arms and Yaba.
Sensing the presence of law enforcers Dil Mohammad’s associated opened fire to police and tried to snatch away Dil Mohammad from police, forcing them to fire back.
At one stage, Dil Mohammad caught in the line of fire and died on the spot.
Six LG gun, 13 cartridges and 7,000 Yaba pills were recovered from the spot. – UNB
