Wife slaughtered for dowry in Laxmipur

Housewife Rasheda Begum was slaughtered last night by her husband for dowry at Char Kadira village under Kamalnagar upazila of the district.Rasheda’s husband Mohammad Sumon, 30, went to the bed room last night and slaughtered her by sharp weapon for Taka 30,000 dowry money and fled the scene leaving her body in pool of blood.Police recovered the body from the spot and sent it to the Sadar Hospital morgue for postmortem.Mohin Uddin, a union parishad member of Char Kadira union, said Sumon had been torturing Rasheda mentally and physically since their marriage 5 years ago and demanded Taka 30,000 as dowry. Sumon killed her last night as he could not realize the money from Rasheda’s family, he said.Rasheda Begum, 24, daughter of late Tajul Hoque of the village has been living at her father’s house with husband Sumon , a native of Balutala village under Comilla district.Rasheda and Sumon fell in love in 2009 when they were working at a garments factory in Dhaka and later they got married.Kabir Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Kamalnagar thana, said police launched a campaign to arrest notorious Sumon. -BSS, Laxmipur
